NeoBand: Real-time temperature monitoring to protect newborn lives

Описание: Every second counts in the first hours of a newborn's life — especially in unexpected deliveries outside of hospital, when emergency transport is involved. Neonatal hypothermia remains a serious risk during these fragile moments, yet continuous temperature monitoring is still a gap in prehospital care.

That’s where NeoBand comes in.

Developed with support from CPI through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) SONNET programme, NeoBand is a wearable, wireless device designed to monitor a baby’s body temperature in real time. Soft, skin-friendly, and non-invasive, it uses flexible electronics embedded in a smooth silicone band to deliver accurate, continuous readings; even on delicate newborn skin.

The innovation was brought to life through CPI’s expertise in:

Materials science and flexible electronics.
Prototype design and screen-printed circuitry.
Component integration, including NFC tech, LEDs, and battery power.
Device encapsulation and regulatory insight.

Together, CPI and NeoBand successfully created and tested a prototype that transfers temperature data wirelessly to an app, and uses LEDs to give immediate alerts, helping frontline workers act fast to protect vulnerable infants.

This breakthrough has the potential to save lives, improve emergency care, and extend to broader applications for the elderly and other at-risk groups.
