0:07 I've decided on my next project - a mosaic of my favorite pink tulips! I have a photo from my garden that I blew up so the flowers will be oversized. I am using a Pebeo Liquid Art Panel with a 3mm recess that is perfect for stained glass mosaics! These panels are available from art supply stores and I think I found mine at Blick. Because the surface is nice to work on directly, I decide to trace the flowers using transfer paper with a ball point pen.
I trace just the flowers and stems with a few buds, since I haven't decided how to make the background yet.
2:11 I'm working sideways so I can reach it better since the substrate is long and skinny. I start cutting a variety of pinks for the tulip on the left side. I use the reference photo to see the darks and lights better. I am using scrap glass from my studio and won't be buying any new glass for this project.
5:03 I'm getting ready for the second tulip. In order to make the first tulip pop forward, I push the darks behind it just a bit. I work from the bottom up, ending with the light rim on the top petals. Both tulips have just a sprinkle of irridized glass.
8:23 It's 4:00 on Friday. Just enough time to make a pendant from some amazing petal filati that remind me of zinnias from my garden.
9:50 I have selected a rectangular bezel with a large bail. I cut up some of the filati before I mix up the Apoxie Sculpt and get started. I nip some of the petals so they sit more flat against the center. It make for a more natural looking flower. I have some leaves I also bought at DiMosaico, so I add those next and then fill in with hand-pulled filati.
11:50 It took about 30 minutes, so I decide to make another. This time I'm using a round bezel.
12:26 Then I bring them both to the garden for a glamour shot!!!

Seems like I didn't get much done in the studio this week....but I did a bunch of paperwork that was long overdue, worked on the design for a future project and had a site visit for the church installation that is coming up soon!
