Swing of the 50s and 60s @ Teatro Dal Verme
What is the connection between The Beatles, irish music, big bands, rock bands and bowed string instruments?
In 2016, after the great success of the previous shows, a new swing event took place in Milan at Teatro Dal Verme. In this year the event was dedicated to 50s and 60s swing music, exploring its connection to the more modern music that became popular during those years.
The show hosted the usual Paolo Tomelleri Big Band with a new section of bowed string instruments, two pianist and two drums.
Like every year, guest stars from all over the world and different group of dancers.
“What’d I Say” was chosen for the show as an example of black music. It is a rhythm and blues piece, played for the first time by Ray Charles and his Big Band in 1958 as an improvisation and recorder the year later. The song became one of the most influential songs in R&B history and it was later covered by many artists, like Elvis and The Beatles. This boogie woogie arrangement is performed by Marco Larosa Dance Group with the Italian singer Mariano.
