Ah, the Ibuki-class. One of the more interesting Japanese ship designs, as it represents the peak of their Armored Cruiser development. The heaviest main battery of any ship of that type. Pretty heavy armor, too.
But, are these ships really *battlecruisers*? The Japanese reclassified them as such. That doesn't really answer the question, though. These were very capable ships for their type. Yet, they don't really fit the usual criteria for a battlecruiser either, as we'll see in this video.
Not that it stopped the Japanese here, any more than the Kongo's lack of armor stopped those being called 'fast battleships'.
