While she visited with the patients, Ashley watched Gospel for Asia national missionaries clean their wounds. This single act bears not only medical but also emotional significance because leprosy carries a crippling stigma in South Asia. Residents of the colony are despised by society, but national missionaries show God's love to them by treating them with dignity and concern.
Beyond medical care, Gospel for Asia's leprosy ministry also offers meals, shoes and, of course, a chance to hear the Good News of Jesus.
Because this leprosy colony is in the middle of the village, the national missionaries' sacrificial service is also a strong witness to many people without leprosy. As Ashley notes, each day the national missionaries care for the leprosy patients, the villagers around them get to see God's love on display.
