I was bummed that the Inca Trail was closed during my visit to Peru due to the covid pandemic, so I chose the Lares trek instead, and believe me, it did not disappoint.

Hiking the Lares trek was beyond amazing. This incredible hike to Machu Picchu in Peru was absolutely stunning. For one, except for the beautiful Andean local people, we were the only ones on the trail the entire time. Yes, this may be due to Covid, but this trek is known to have less tourists than any of the other treks available to Machu Picchu. And, this is also a great choice if you're more prone to altitude sickness. The height /peak of this trek reaches 14,107 feet over Condor Pass and the continuous, never-ending views will amaze you.
If you're looking for a trek that can give you a reconnection to Mother Earth \ Pachamama, then this trek is for you.
I went with Alpaca Expeditions and would definitely recommend this company to others. Our guide, Daniel Mayta Perez was well articulated in English, Spanish, and Quechua (the local Andes language). He was also very knowledgeable about the landscape and way of life.
The food was also amazing. I still don't know how they made gourmet meals from a camp tent, but somehow they managed to pull it off.
This trek was definitely more like glamping and I felt very spoiled.
