After testing over 30 massage guns I decided to explain the deciding factors you should look at for athletes. Obviously athletes are going to need more power than the average user. We break power down to three different factors: speed, amplitude and stall force. If a massage gun doesn't have the right combination of these, you might as well throw it away. Some massage guns have tons of power, like the Theragun Prime, however, they are also very expensive and are larger.
