Описание: The Eclectic Banjo’s Guide to Music Theory presents similarly related content together using instruction, charts, and of course playing of the banjo. Each lesson builds upon each other so that unfamiliar material can be reviewed in previous lessons, if needed. The goal of the series is to better understanding your banjo and the music that you play.


Lesson 6: "Tuning & Temperament"
A look into one of the earliest tuning systems, Pythagorean Tuning, its pros and cons, and how it compares to modern banjos' systems of tuning called Equal Temperament.

Previous Lessons:

Lesson 5: "The G Major Scale, the Key of G, and Standard G Tuning on the Banjo"
I will discuss the main points of each musical construct: 1) the G Major scale; 2) the Key of G; and 3) Standard G tuning; as well as differentiate the 3 constructs between each other. By the end of the lesson, there should be no confusion as to the context in which each should be used.

Lesson 4: “Memorizing the Fretboard”
In this lesson I summarize what scales and chords are, review what are major chord triads, describe the order of notes on the banjo including where notes repeat themselves at octaves and unison frets/strings, describe how mnemonics can help memorize the fretboard using major triad bar chords, and finally applying what I taught toward real life examples from Frailin’ Danny.

Lesson 3: “Introduction to Scales & Chords”
This lesson talks about what the Chromatic and Diatonic scales are, a look into some key points about the G Major scale, and an introduction to Major Chord Triads on the banjo’s fretboard.

Lesson 2: “Pitches & Octaves”
Introduction to Note Pitches on the banjo as well as what Octaves are, some examples, and wrap up by describing a useful notation for Pitch: the Octave Reference Number.

Lesson 1: “Sound & Notes — The Basics”
Introduction to the different types of sound and how sound that can be quantified by both pitch and duration can be expressed as musical notes. I then address with broad strokes what the 12 notes in Western music are and cover a broad overview of where they can be found on the banjo's fretboard.
