Photographs of Mario Lanza and Ireland along with assorted paintings, appropriate to the song lyrics, together with Lanza's incredible, heart-felt vocal interpretation of Oh, Danny Boy, create the mood for this touching and beloved Irish song. It is obvious that Mario deeply felt the meaning of this song's moving lyrics with all his heart.
Is Oh, Danny Boy originally an Irish or English tune?
According to http://www.h2g2.com/approved_entry/A3..., "Malachy McCourt, author of Danny Boy: The Legend of the Beloved English Ballad, claims there is evidence that the original tune was written by a blind Irish harpist named Rory Dall O'Cahan1. Blind Rory, a descendant of the ruling O'Cahan clan, was a composer who lived sometime between 1560 and 1660 and who was well-known for his purths, or harp tunes, the best known of which is 'Tabhair Dom do Lámh', or 'Give Me Your Hand'." This story is an interesting read, I recommend it.
