This month, we have three speed talks from Parker DePond, Carolina Ugarte, Lindsey Higgins, and a long talk from Pen-Yuan Hsing.
Parker DePond starts things off by discussing how Near Infrared Spectrometry (NIR) can be used as a non-invasive identifier in mammals, and its potential for autonomous mark recapture studies. Carolina Ugarte shares her research connecting acoustic recording devices to camera traps to test acoustic risk cues. Lindsey Higgins introduces Pivotal, which uses machine learning models and a global network of ecological experts to measure ecosystem condition. Finally, Pen-Yuan Hsing dives into the importance (and misconceptions around) open source tech for conservation.
