Junior doctors in England are gearing up for a five-day strike from February 24 to 28 due to an ongoing clash with the government over their pay.
Represented by the British Medical Association (BMA), these doctors are pushing for a hefty 35% pay increase, a demand that the government has already turned down. This disagreement is likely to disrupt or even cancel many routine hospital services.
The government claims it's aiming for a "reasonable solution" and is open to sweetening the pay offer. Junior doctors did get a pay bump of nearly 9% this financial year, and in late 2023 talks, there was even discussion of an extra 3% on top of that. Unfortunately, these negotiations hit a dead end in early December without reaching a deal.
