Valgus and Varus Deformities

Valgus and varus deformities refer to abnormalities in the alignment of bones in the lower limbs, leading to an improper angle at the joints.

Valgus Deformity (Knock-Knees)

Description: In valgus deformity, the knees angle inward and touch each other when the legs are straightened. The lower legs are bent outward.
Causes: Common causes include genetic factors, arthritis, rickets, and injuries.
Symptoms: Visible inward angling of the knees, knee pain, difficulty walking, and increased wear on the outer side of the knee joint.
Diagnosis: Clinical examination, X-rays, and gait analysis.
Treatment: Physical therapy, orthotics, weight management, and in severe cases, surgical correction such as osteotomy or knee replacement.

Varus Deformity (Bow-Legs)
