In Delhi, once again a minor issue has led to the loss of a life. In Wazirpur JJ Colony of Outer Delhi, a house that was filled with celebration on Thursday night suddenly turned into a scene of chaos and mourning within minutes. Wedding drums were playing, people were dancing, and everyone was waiting for the arrival of the wedding procession. No one imagined that the bride’s uncle would be brutally beaten to death the same night.
The incident reportedly took place around 10:30 pm on Thursday. The daughter of a man named Suresh, a resident of Wazirpur JJ Colony, was getting married. The area around the house was decorated with lights, and guests had gathered to celebrate. The wedding procession had arrived from Swaroop Nagar in Delhi, and people were dancing and enjoying the festive atmosphere.
During this time, the bride’s 42-year-old uncle, Mohan Lal, who worked as an electrician, approached a few young men standing in the narrow lane. Since the wedding procession was about to reach the house, he politely asked them to move aside and clear the way so the procession could pass.
However, the request angered the youths. An argument broke out between Mohan Lal and the group. For a moment, it seemed the situation had calmed down and the wedding procession moved forward. But after the procession had gone a little ahead, the same youths again approached Mohan Lal and suddenly attacked him.
According to reports, the attackers surrounded Mohan Lal and started beating him mercilessly with punches and kicks. Several people were present nearby at the time. Guests attending the wedding and members of the procession were dancing just a short distance away, but the sudden attack left everyone shocked.
When Mohan Lal’s younger brother Virender tried to intervene and save him, the attackers assaulted him as well and injured him badly.
Both brothers were rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital in critical condition. Doctors tried to save Mohan Lal, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Virender is currently said to be in stable condition.
Family members said that Mohan Lal died before the wedding rituals could be completed. The house that was echoing with music and celebration a short while earlier suddenly turned into a place of grief and mourning. Mohan Lal leaves behind three daughters.
During the investigation, police found that the attack was allegedly carried out near Mata Park (Pathwari Park) by Sahil alias Natwala alias Lala along with his associates Raghav alias Aligarhiya alias Romeo, Abhishek alias Bagheera, and Arjun.
According to the North-West District Police, teams reached the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident. The crime team and forensic team inspected the crime scene. Acting swiftly, the police arrested all four accused within an hour of the incident.
Such incidents are increasingly being reported in Delhi, where even minor disputes turn deadly. It would not be wrong to say that due to intoxication and criminal tendencies, many people lose their temper over trivial matters. The result often ends in someone losing their life and the accused facing a lifetime in prison. The Wazirpur incident has once again highlighted this harsh reality.
