5/2/1970 Angels at Red Sox highlights California rallies to win Reggie Smith makes Willie Mays catch

Описание: This is a 16-minute video of highlights from the May 2, 1970 Major League Baseball game between the California Angels and the Red Sox in Boston, won by the Angels, 8-4.
It is from the WHDH TV in Boston broadcast, with Ken Coleman and Ned Martin on play by play and Johnny Pesky on analysis.
Rico Petrocelli hit a three-run homer in the first inning and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the third to stake the Red Sox to a 4-0 lead that one would think they would have been able to protect.
Alas the Angels got to Vicente Romo, Ray Jarvis, and Ed Phillips for eight runs, paced by Jim Fregosi's three RBIs, and relievers Greg Garrett and Ken Tatum kept the Boston bats silent the rest of the way.
This one is worth watching if only for the many fine Red Sox defensive plays, topped by center fielder Reggie Smith making a Willie Mays-robs-Vic Wertz-like catch in the top of the fifth on Fregosi (08:10). Smith also registered a beautiful running grab. Left fielder Carl Yastrzemski cut down a runner at third with a great peg (00:57), shortstop Petrocelli had a dazzling start to a double play (11:03), and first baseman George Scott made a fantastic stop and tag (13:04).
The Angels did OK in that regard, too, as Roger Repoz robbed Dick Schofield of a homer in the bottom of the eighth, holding onto the ball as he crashed into the right field fence (14:42).
Notes: Fairly recently posted video of Bill Voss running into the wall at White Sox Park earlier in his career, and now he collides with his second baseman. Put some bubble-wrap around that guy ... For those who partake, the final out of the game is a rare Tom Matchick-on-the-Red Sox at-bat.
