Drone footage shows destroyed theatre in besieged Mariupol, Ukraine

On March 25, local officials in the southern Ukrainian port city, citing witness accounts, said they estimated that 300 people were killed in the bombing of a theatre on March 16. Mariupol city council officials claimed a Russian air strike hit the theatre where hundreds of people had been sheltering.

Russia has denied bombing the theatre. The Kremlin says Russian forces have not targeted civilians after Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on February 24.

A March 28 statement from the Mariupol mayor's office said that nearly 5,000 people, including about 210 children, had been killed in the city since Russian forces laid siege to it. It was not clear how the mayor's office had calculated the toll from a month of Russian bombardment that has devastated the city and trapped tens of thousands of residents without power and with few supplies.
