The Gilneans, already weakened by the Worgen curse and civil unrest, were overwhelmed.
Despite fierce resistance, Gilneas was eventually lost to the Forsaken.

In desperation, Genn turned to the Night Elves, who had experience with the Worgen curse.
The Night Elves helped the Gilneans control the curse through druidic rituals and offered them refuge.
Through this alliance, Genn and his people reconnected with the Alliance.
Given their shared enemy (Forsaken) and common history, King Varian Wrynn welcomed Gilneas and the Worgen into the Alliance.

Genn felt guilty for isolating his people and saw rejoining the Alliance as a way to atone.
He also developed a deep hatred for Sylvanas, who was responsible for the loss of his kingdom and the death of his son (Liam Greymane).
This personal vendetta drove Genn to become one of the most loyal and aggressive champions of the Alliance.
