Political diplomacy is needed between the continent's electoral bodies and their respective governments to ensure that the guidelines and principles for safeguarding electoral integrity in a digital age are implemented. These were the remarks of the IEC CEO, Sy Mamabolo, at a two-day validation workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Fifteen Election Management bodies have converged at the African Union headquarters to draft rules for the use of digital and social media in elections in Africa. The IEC has been tasked with facilitating this process. Natasha Phiri filed this report.
