“Streaming used to feel simple. One or two subscriptions and you had everything you wanted. But now? Prices keep going up, shows keep disappearing, and suddenly you’re paying for five different platforms just to keep up. It feels like price gouging with no control as a user.

That frustration is exactly what pushed me to start building my own streaming app. If the platforms won’t give us choice, control, and a fair deal, why not make something custom?

In this video, I’ll take you through the full journey of how I built StreamerVerse (Pixel Pop Cinema) — my own desktop streaming platform — from scratch:

🎬 APIs I used: TMDB (metadata), YouTube (trailers), and VidSrc (actual video streaming)

📚 Features: search, favorites, watchlist, continue watching, multiple streaming sources with fallback

🛡️ Challenges: ad-blocking, multi-source streaming, API integration, and a repo that got stuck in GitHub staging because I accidentally pushed Electron build files

This project isn’t perfect — no offline support, no profiles, still a lot of technical debt — but it’s mine. And it proves that with enough curiosity (and a little frustration at subscription prices), you can code your own solution.
