This is a helpful feature found in Lightroom 5 and 6 that helps detect dust spots on your lens or sensor dust so you can use the spot removal tool to get rid of them.

Some spots are obvious to the naked eye while others are hard to see and you may not notice them until you've printed the image. Visualize Spots is really helpful for hard to see spots and saves time, so you don't have to put your image at 100% in Lightroom then scour every pixel in search of dust specks.

To turn on Visualize Spots, select the Spot Removal Tool (shortcut Q) in the Develop Module then check the Visualize Spots checkbox on the bottom tool bar. You'll get a black and white outline that will show up any dust spots as white circles or dots.
