In Germany in 1942, 17-year-old Friedrich (Max Riemelt) trains himself with the dream of one day joining a Nazi training camp. After passing many exams, he gets the chance, but his father strongly opposes it, so he forges his father's signature on the paperwork, becomes a member of the training camp, and begins the grueling daily training. In it, he meets Albrecht (Tom Schilling), the son of a German officer, and the two form a deep friendship. However, Albrecht is not keen on the Nazis, but prefers literature and writing. Albrecht's father wants his son to become a Nazi officer like him, and the two are at odds. In the training camp, Friedrich and Albrecht discovered many ugly phenomena, and Friedrich's faith began to waver. And during a water training, Albrecht never came out of the water...
The film won the 2003 German Film Award for Best Original Screenplay.
