His father, amongst many accolades, was a member of The Original Lockers alongside, notably, Toni Basil, Fred "Rerun" Berry, and Don "Campbellock" Campbell. He also starred in the Hip Hop and urban dance classics "Breakin'" and "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" as well as choreographed for Madonna, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie.

Vashawn also tells a few stories and touches on his own endeavors including co-hosting the podcast "Fear of a Black Film Critic."
