The Nautilus flood barrier systems are robust aluminium flood barriers designed to be quickly and safely deployed before a flood. They help protect properties by preventing water from entering through the defended aperture.
The flood barriers are engineered, manufactured, and rigorously tested in the U.K to meet the highest standards, including compliance with BSI Standard PAS1188 for demountable and building aperture flood defence barriers. The barrier shown has also passed independent testing for the new BSI Standard BS851188. These barriers are widely used by the Environment Agency as part of their Property Flood Resilience Framework, attesting to their reliability and effectiveness.
To ensure we can assist as many people as possible with reducing their flood risk and Mainstreaming PFR, we have created a handy step-by-step video guide of 'How to Install', including the groundworks to fit a ground strip.
Purchase and Installation Options
The Nautilus flood barriers are available for purchase from Flood Protection Solutions Ltd on a supply-only basis or with professional installation.
• Supply Only: Barriers can be shipped nationally and internationally. The step-by-step video details the process making it viable for competent DIYers or builders.
• Supplied and Installed: Within mainland U.K we offer professional installation at an additional cost for those who prefer this option.

Key Installation Details
• Silicone Used: CT1 (HA6 is also viable)
• Concrete Base: M90 Bedding Mortar
• Powder Coating Options: The barrier rails in this example are powder-coated black to match the downpipe, but they can be powder-coated to any RAL colour of your choice for an additional cost.
Post-Flood Dismantling and Storage
Once a flood has passed, the barriers can be easily dismantled and stored, ready for future use.
Custom Features
The demountable aluminium flood barriers are suitable for both residential and commercial properties, spanning wide distances and thriving in hostile environments. Over 1,000 properties across the U.K. and internationally have been equipped with these systems.
In this particular installation, the front door was fitted with a barrier while the garage door was not. The garage was bricked up internally, rendering a barrier unnecessary. If needed, a garage barrier could have been installed either internally, or externally requiring relocation of the channel drain.
The flood barrier must compress onto a suitable foundation. UPVC doorsteps are unsuitable as they may bend under pressure or allow water to flow underneath. In this case, rail packing was used to ensure proper clearance and effectiveness.
While the video focuses solely on flood barrier installation, other flood resilience measures to consider include:
• Repointing with a waterproof additive
• Treating brickwork with a breathable water-resistant cream
• Installing non-return valves in drainage
• Sealing around pipes and other entry points
• Replacing airbricks with anti-flood airbricks or covers (none were present at this property).
Disclaimer and Safety Guidance
When undertaking a flood barrier installation, it is critical to conduct your own Risk Assessment to ensure:
• The appropriate PPE is worn.
• The correct tools are used.
• Safe practices are followed during excavation to avoid underground services.
Flood Protection Solutions Ltd accepts no liability for any incidents or damages that occur as a result of following this guidance. This video does not substitute a professional Flood Risk Assessment or Flood Survey, nor does it address all potential entry points at a property.
