A Short Introduction to Maison Bonnat by Stéphane Bonnat

Overall, Bonnat secured 11 awards in the competition, including a Gold for their "Jean Sulpice – Chocolat Noir Pistaches" bar, a collaboration with the Aix-les-Bains-based, Michelin-starred French chef, the youngest-ever, at 26, to have earned a Michelin star.


The video was shot in front of the original oven used by the founder of Maison Bonnat back in the mid-1700s.


I was fortunate to have visited Voiron this past May just before lockdown, my first visit to the home of this legendary chocolate house since 1998, at the very beginning of my ChocolateLife. I returned home from my 2020 European tour (Amsterdam; Mänttä and Helsinki, Finland; Voiron, Brussels, Rotterdam) with two of these bars – as well as other 2020 award-winning bars; Chocolat Fondant au Café, Chocolat Noir au Praliné Noisettes, Chuao Village, and past-winner Morenita, a milk chocolate bar made with Mexican beans. These helped me through the first weeks of self-quarantine and I felt zero guilt not sharing them with anyone.
