In the past decade or so, a shift has happened in terms of Euro-American cultural dominance. South Korean movies, television, and music have become increasingly visible, and ever more widely enjoyed – even obsessed over – in "the West". BLΛƆKPIИK and BTS, Stray Kids, Seventeen, NMIXX, Aespa, Twice, and SOOOO many more acts are taking over the charts and putting on some of the biggest world tours of all time.

What is the special appeal of K-Pop? Where did it come from? In this video, we discuss its origins, with the Kim Sisters, Kim Min-Ki, and Seo Taiji & Boys, its characteristics (including an interview with Pontus "Oneye" Kalm, Swedish K-Pop writer / producer), and its unique approach to fusion.

We talk to a Norwegian fan, Hanna Wedberg, about what makes it all so intoxicating. And we look at what K-Pop has in common with the best of European and American pop music.
