I recently started playing around with the magnetic absolute encoder AS5600 breakout board... I really love it! It's super accurate, very cheap, and reasonably easy to set up.
Yes, you can use it with 5 volts. Yes, it puts out an analog voltage -- but you need to tie VCC to GPO.
In this video I am using a little knob that I designed that has an as AS5600 encoder inside the base and the supplied magnet in the lid. That is connected to an Arduino Nano which is then connected to my laptop with a USB cable. On my laptop, I am running the unity game engine to make the arrow that responds to the knob position.
The communication between Arduino and Unity is handled by my Powder Of Life framework. You can download the libraries for both Arduino and unity as well as the STL files from the GitHub repo...
