Daribokgre - A peaceful entry point to Nokrek Biosphere Reserve, surrounded by lush green hills.

From Daribokgre, we travelled towards Sakal’a Duma, a scenic viewpoint known for its panoramic beauty. Here we also saw a Nokachik – a traditional Garo house, built with bamboo, wood and local materials, reflecting the indigenous lifestyle of the Garo people.

Dopatchi Homestay - It is owned by Mr. Dharmin. Room Price – ₹2500 (double occupancy, with breakfast). If you love calm places, nature sounds, birds, peace and slow living.

Wangala Festival - we headed towards the grand celebration of the Wangala Festival, the biggest festival of the Garo community. Wangala is celebrated to thank Misi Saljong (Sun God) for a good harvest.

The rhythmic drums, colorful costumes, energetic dance and the festive atmosphere made the experience unforgettable. We also enjoyed a delicious local lunch here which included Brenga (chicken cooked inside bamboo), chicken with potatoes, rice wrapped in leaves, and more.

After the festival, we visited a Nokachik house where we explored its interiors and learned about the traditional Garo way of living.

Rongram Vegetable market - Here we visited a local vegetable market to explore unique vegetables not commonly found in the rest of India. We saw
• Bitter Tomato (Kimka Baring in Garo),
• Kimka (smaller variant),
• Tapioca,
• Local greens, and several other Garo ingredients.

Darechikgre - Towards the evening, we travelled to Darechikgre for a magical sunset viewpoint. This place is located on a private property and has an entry fee of ₹40 per person. The golden light, rolling hills and peaceful silence made it a perfect end-of-day moment.

Dinner - Finally, we visited Oswin’s house for dinner, where we enjoyed a comforting Garo-style home meal:

• Chole with Sesame Seeds
• Yam ki Sabzi
• Baingan ka Bharta

A warm, homely end to an eventful day.

This episode captures Meghalaya’s real beauty — its culture, food, people, nature and slow life of the Garo Hills.
