The Gulf War: Every Hour (1991) | The 100-Hour Ground War, Animated Map

Описание: The Gulf War 1991 on an animated map, every hour: Operation Desert Storm's 100-hour ground war — the VII Corps left hook, 73 Easting, Norfolk, Medina Ridge, the Highway of Death and the liberation of Kuwait.

One hundred hours, one frame per hour. From G-Day at 04:00 on 24 February 1991, when two Marine divisions breached the minefields of the "Saddam Line", to the cease-fire at 08:00 on 28 February: every corps and division of the Coalition and of Iraq moving hour by hour, the VII Corps "left hook" through the desert, 73 Easting, Norfolk and Medina Ridge, the Highway of Death and the liberation of Kuwait City.

Blue is the Coalition, red Iraq and Iraqi-occupied Kuwait. Each icon is about 5,000 men; arrows show the main axes of advance; each × is 500 killed, left where they fell. No narration.

0:00 24 February – G-Day: the Marines breach the Saddam Line
0:38 24 February, 15:00 – VII Corps attacks 15 hours early
1:14 25 February – Al Burgan; the 101st cuts Highway 8
1:56 26 February – Iraq orders the retreat
2:28 26 February, 16:00 – 73 Easting; the Highway of Death
2:52 27 February, 00:30 – Norfolk, the largest tank battle of the war
3:10 27 February – Kuwait City liberated; Medina Ridge
4:04 28 February, 08:00 – Cease-fire

Unit positions are interpolated hour by hour between the recorded stages of each advance, so they are approximate; the Iraqi corps and Republican Guard divisions are shown at estimated strengths and shrink as they surrender or retreat. Coalition losses are killed in action for each engagement; Iraqi losses are estimates – the sources differ widely (for the Highway of Death alone, from 200 to more than 1,000 killed) and the lower figures are used here. Found an error? Comment the hour and the place – corrections go into the next edition.
