Proper FOV and viewmodel in Skyrim SE 1.6.640 (current as of Dec 2023)

Описание: The procedure uses the numbers 90 and 80 as examples. You can set your FOV however you like.

Proper setting of FOV:

1. Open console and type FOV 90 80
2. Open character menu (default key binding is Tab on PC)
3. Select map
4. Close map
5. Save the game

Important: opening the map with the M shortcut (or whichever shortcut you have set) does NOT trigger viewmodel FOV update. I have no idea why that is. Use the character menu.

The first number in step 1 sets world FOV (your view of the world) and the second number sets the viewmodel FOV (your hands and weapons). If both your numbers are the same, you're good to go.

But if you entered a different numbers for view for world and viewmodel, like in the example, it will appear that the separate viewmodel FOV change didn't work properly. Skyrim has applied your world FOV to everything including your hands and weapons, which isn't what we wanted. But wait! Steps 2-4 trigger the viewmodel FOV change. Step 5 is necessary to retain these settings, since they are baked into the save file. These changes are permanent for this save and this save only (until you decide to manually change them again for this particular save).

You do not need to enter the custom FOV console commands every time you load up Skyrim or continue the save, or create a new save. Even if you load up a different save that has different FOV settings, you can go back to this save and your custom FOV settings for this will instantiate.

Notes on everyone's favorite subject: INI files

1. The above console commands do not change INI files
2. Adding or changing FOV settings in Skyrim.ini does not affect any game that has been already been started.
3. If you want new games to start with your FOV settings, open Skyrim.ini and add fDefaultWorldFOV=90 and fDefault1stPersonFOV=80 under the [Display] heading.
