Research and Admissions - Session with Lumiere Alumni and Former Dartmouth Admissions Officer

About the speakers
Sam Jeong has served as a guidance counselor in Vietnam and China for the past five years. Prior to being a guidance counselor, Sam served as an Assistant Director of Admissions at Dartmouth College, taught elementary school students in Taiwan through the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship program, and was a Chinese Government Scholar in Shanghai, where he studied journalism at Fudan University. Sam holds a BA in sociology and Chinese from Williams College and a MA in Independent School Leadership.

Mira Dasgupta is a student at Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai, is preparing to go to New York University this fall to study politics and economics. She was part of the summer 2021 cohort of the Lumiere Research Scholar Program, where she wrote an extensive economics research paper on the trade liberalization policies in South Korea.

Riya Maiya is a student at German Swiss International School in Hong Kong, and has been admitted to the University of Pennsylvania to study astrophysics. She was part of Lumiere's spring 2021 cohort, where she wrote an astrophysics research paper detailing the growth and evolution of the universe.

Gurjeet Singh is a Grade 12 student at S.S. International School, Karnal. He is from a small village in India named Churni Jagir. He was accepted at both Princeton and Dartmouth, and will likely be attending Princeton this fall. Gurjeet did the Lumiere Research Scholar Program in the summer of 2021 on full financial aid, and went on to present his research at the IRIS National Fair.

About the program
Founded by Harvard & Oxford researchers, the Lumiere Research Scholar Program is a selective program for talented high school students. In the program, students work 1-1 with a research mentor from a top university to develop a 15-20 page research paper. Students have done research in topics ranging from machine learning and economics to gender studies and genetics. Over 800 students from 30 different countries have participated in the Lumiere Research Scholar Program so far, and we are always looking for more talented applicants!
