Oat or Wheat Straw vs. Pine Needle Straw: Which is Better?

Описание: I have to use some kind of mulch. I get too much sun in my mostly treeless property and in the summer, if I don't use a mulch, the plants in the garden wither in the heat & blaring sun.

I have been using wheat straw in my veggie beds, but I was always annoyed when the seed grains in it sprouted and grew. Since part of my purpose for using mulch was to prevent weeds from growing...Big Fail! The idea of having to weed my mulch agitates my dots in so many ways!

Segue to 2024 and I finally had the brilliant idea (aka I saw it used on someone else's YouTube channel) to try pine needle straw. I have, in the past, used it to mulch blueberry bushes, thinking it would help acidify the soil. Apparently, that doesn't actually happen; but now that I have blue berry bushes again, I decided to use PN straw this year.

And, boy, am I glad I did! If this short video is a sign of things to come, I will be driving to South Carolina to buy PN straw in bulk!

The one drawback to PN straw...more expensive then regular straw. Grrr!
