Who says trailers have to be trashy? Mobile homes are transformed into palatial houses
A new book details the transformation of a selection of trailer homes to dwellings with flamboyant designs
Trailer homes were traditionally made with leftover sheet metal from aircraft factories during World War Two
One owner redesigned their home to resemble an Ancient Egyptian palace and another others look futuristic
The photos are to feature in book Small Dreams: 50 Palm Springs Trailer Homes by designer Jeffrey Milstein
Incredible images showing how otherwise identical mobile homes in Palm Springs, California have been customized and remodeled into unrecognizable dwellings have been unveiled in a new book.
The collection of eye-catching shots show how owners have redesigned their humble abodes to suit Egyptian, Christmas and desert themes with some adorned with fairy lights and a giant cactus.
Other pictures show a home transformed into a sleek looking futuristic property with angular white roofing and a carport. One image even shows a glamorous red carpet leading to the front door.
This mobile home has been given an Ancient Egyptian themes with pseudo hieroglyphics and columns to mark the entrance to the driveway. The low wall at the front also gives the illusion of there a being a moat around the property. The remarkable property is located in Blue Skies Village, Cathedral City, California
Is this Beverly Hills? This former mobile home looks more like a luxury house for the rich and famous with its new white modern roods and long driveway
Christmas is coming. The homeowners are clearly in the festive spirit and have added a tasteful lighting display across the roof and on the palm trees in the front yard
The original mobile homes are visible if you look carefully. This property has had an extension and an attractive border added. Its extension and the flanking palm trees and mountains make this once portable house a desirable place to live
The spectacular pictures have been released in the book Small Dreams: 50 Palm Springs Trailer Homes by American photographer, architect and graphic designer, Jeffrey Milstein. This property's sloping roof is reminiscent of the wings of a plane
This home doens't look like it was once a portbale house with a neat car parking bay and veranda. The book also includes mobile homes from the Blue Skies Village Trailer Park that was founded by singer Bing Crosby. 'I trained and worked as an architect and found that I was always attracted to economy of scale and owner built indigenous architecture,' he said
This unusual design is almost reminiscent of a home that sits on the river's edge on the Grand Canal that cuts through the picturesque Chinese city of Suzhou that is also known as the Venice of the East
Trailer homes were traditionally made with leftover sheet metal from aircraft factories during World War Two. 'I trained and worked as an architect and found that I was always attracted to economy of scale and owner built indigenous architecture,' said Jeffrey
Jeffrey explains that the way in which the homes have been decorated reflects the aspirations of the owners. 'What is special about them, and makes them so visually appealing was that over the years they had been lovingly added to and decorated so that they became more than mere houses,' he said.
