‎Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised the lifetime flight ban imposed on Comfort Emmanson by the Airline Operators of Nigeria and Ibom Air, calling the decision unjust and questioning the due process behind it.
‎
‎Obi, in a post on X Tuesday, likened Nigeria’s justice system to a “spider’s web” that traps the weak while the powerful go unpunished.
‎
‎Emmanson, in her twenties, was filmed on August 10 angrily confronting an Ibom Air flight attendant and security officials.
‎
‎ Following the incident, she was barred from all domestic flights and remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre until October 6. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has said the case could still be resolved out of court if both parties agree.
‎
‎Obi faulted the “lightning speed” of the sanction, contrasting it with the slow handling of offences committed by influential figures. He described it as a “tragic irony” that severe punishment is meted out to the less privileged while the powerful escape consequences.
‎
‎The development follows a similar no-fly sanction placed on Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde after an altercation at the Abuja airport, which is still under investigation.
