Australia should have abstained in UN vote on Palestinian membership: Labor MP

Описание: Labor MP Josh Burns has claimed Australia should have abstained in the UN vote which called for the Palestinian Authority to become a UN member.

“In her recent speech the Foreign Minister outlined some really important principles – one which has been that Hamas can play no future role in the governance of Gaza,” he told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“The other ones being that Palestinian authority needs to be reformed, and then that reformed Palestinian authority cannot be a threat to the people of Israel.

“In my view I don’t believe those conditions have been met yet, so I issued that statement and said that an abstention would have been more appropriate because it would have meant we’re more open to future positions but we’re not there yet.”
