📜 Partition of Bengal (1905–1911)
In 1905, the British Viceroy Lord Curzon divided Bengal into two parts:
Eastern Bengal and Assam (with a Muslim majority) and Western Bengal (with a Hindu majority).
Though presented as an “administrative reform,” it was actually a classic strategy of “Divide and Rule.”
⚡ The decision sparked massive reactions across India. Hindus saw it as an attack on national unity and launched strong protests, while Muslims welcomed it as recognition of their political and cultural identity.
In 1911, due to continuous agitation, the partition was annulled. However, this event left a lasting impact on Indian politics and shaped Hindu-Muslim relations in the subcontinent.
