PROPHET REV2 SYNTHWORKX 4 // using prophet patches only

Описание: Back in 2018 I finally purchased the analogue Prophet Rev2 Dave Smith instruments synthesizer, inspired by the score music to the first Stranger Things series, with that cool intro theme by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein.

This REV2 crispy synth was a mature upgrade compared to my little dinosaur Yamaha PortaSound PS200 keyboard, that I bought as a kid.
Going further back I was inspired by Autobahn from Kraftwerk and specially the album Equinoxe by Jean-Michel Jarre. Some great synth vibe was also triggered by the score album Distance Between Dreams by Tom Holkenborg.

Between 2018 and 2024 I composed my nine so called Prophet REV2 SynthWorkX, in which I only use (tweaked) patches from this great synthesizer. In my work I use a relative complex layering of melodies, pads, arpeggios, ostinato’s, basses, percussive sounds and little efx.

In Cubase Pro 13 my Prophet is attached as a external instrument. That way I can work with midi, tweak and automate every single Prophet envelope and parameter. The disadvantage is that it can only playback and record one synth track at a time.

Once I have recorded all the individual tracks I start sculpting and mixing, finding interesting balances between all these indivudual tracks. Dynamics, panning, depth, filtering, all this kind of stuff. Untill it clicks. On some of the tracks I also use side-chain.

All was composed, mixed and produced using Cubase Pro 13. Here are some of the plugins that I used when mixing and mastering:

Next to that I added some extra send reverb using:
Fabfilter Pro-R reverb: Chamber, Hall and Blackhole presets
