Laws around blasphemy — which is the act of insulting god — might seem like a foreign concept to more secular societies, but this is still considered a crime in many parts of the world, including Pakistan.
Some of the biggest blasphemy cases have come out of Pakistan, including that of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who was acquitted in 2018 over false blasphemy charges that had her spend eight years on death row. More recently, a Muslim man on trial for blasphemy was gunned down by a so-called vigilante.
