A strip of magnesium metal burns with an intense bright flame — so bright that it can easily outshine the surrounding environment. In this shot, you can clearly see the flame front where the magnesium is actively reacting with oxygen.
Captured using the Helios Welding Visualization System by Applied Science, this setup combines Helios lights with the Chronos 1.4 high-speed camera to reveal what the human eye can’t perceive in real time.
Such visualization technique is valuable in:
🔹 Combustion and flame dynamics research – to study ignition, burn rate, and reaction propagation.
🔹 Material science and metallurgy – to analyze oxidation behavior and thermal degradation.
🔹 Safety and energetic materials testing – to observe reactions in controlled environments.
🔹 Industrial process monitoring – particularly in welding, cutting, and thermal spraying applications.
