"There were different commissions here, both the diocesan commission and the commission of the episcopal conference of the former state, related to this reality.

Pope Benedict XVI launched a special Commission led by Cardinal Camillo Ruini.

And then, four or five years ago, Pope Francis decided to tell everyone that you can come here, that is, make an official pilgrimage: bishops, priests, institutions, parishes, dioceses, because this is a place of grace, and he gave the parish of Medjugorje special jurisdiction by sending the apostolic visitor, who resides here permanently.

For every Youth Festival, the Pope sends his message, which is very deep, and talks about the meaning he gives to this place of grace", added Cavalli.

According to the new apostolic visitor, Medjugorje is a place of peace and conversion.

"In this environment of grace, and with the help of this grace, people change their inner attitude.

That is conversion: an inner change, and it is a work of grace.

What is done here, the Eucharist, adoration, rosary, confessions, going to two 'shrines', is something that is done in every parish, but here because of grace, it has become a place of grace", he points out.

Understanding the divisiveness that is felt in the Church towards each new phenomenon, Cavalli is aware that there is no need to hurry with the formalization of relations with Medjugorje either:

"Whenever a new powerful thing happens in the Church, you have people who are inclined to it, and who are against it.

And then with time, the fundamental things that the Lord wants, that the Holy Spirit wants to be realized, always come true in time in the Church. It is always like that, and it was like that with Medjugorje.

41 years ago it was a simple and poor place, doing what it could to survive. Even after 41 years, we have a place of grace where people come from all over the world, travel thousands of kilometers, to find grace.

Here, it is this change of reality, as it is in other realities in the Church all over the world".

When asked how realistic it is to declare Medjugorje a sanctuary, the apostolic visitor replied: "We are working on everything, but one thing is clear: this is a holy place."
