How to turn on a PC Power Supply Without a PC

This is a really simple way of powering your PSU without a motherboard! Use this method for PC troubleshooting, seeing LED mods as you work, or powering your watercooling equipment by itself. There's probably more you could use it for too, whatever is powered by a SATA or MOLEX cable really.

The steps in this process are:
1: plug PSU power cable into a wall outlet and turn on the power switch if there is one
2: plug 24 pin cable and SATA/Molex cable into PSU
3: plug whatever you want to power into the SATA or Molex connector (LED strip for example)
4: bend paper clip
5: stick paper clip into the 2 correct pins at the same time on the 24 pin cable
And that's pretty much it. It'll be powering whatever's plugged into the SATA or Molex cable.

You totally don't need an insulated paper clip or anything, that's just all I had sitting around. There's no danger whatsoever of getting zapped by doing this even with a bare metal paper clip.

If you're going to be using this method to power RGB LED strips, make sure they're hardware controlled with a physical remote controller, otherwise you won't be able to change the colors. Kind of like this:
