I Didn’t Notice Input Lag… Until I Went Back to CRT

I always assumed input lag was something you only noticed in competitive modern games.
It wasn’t until I went back to a CRT that I realised something was actually off.
After buying a modern digital projector as a backup for my CRT setup, I thought everything was fine. The image was sharp, it worked well with Apple TV, and with an upscaled signal from my PlayStation 2 it even had some of that nostalgic feel.
But after going back to my CRT and playing games like Metal Slug, I started to notice something I hadn’t paid attention to before — input lag.
In this video I talk about the moment I realised my hands were reacting faster than the screen, why CRT displays still feel so immediate for retro games, and how modern convenience can sometimes get in the way of how games are meant to feel.
This isn’t a technical review — just my experience moving between CRT and modern projection, and trying to work out what actually matters when you’re playing older games.
In the next part of this journey I’ll be looking at whether a modern low input lag projector, possibly the BenQ gaming projector can get close to that CRT home cinema feeling.
