The famous and one of the most renowned monarchs Henry V, king of England from AD 1413-1422 won an astonishing victory at the battle of Agincourt in AD 1415. This ultimately decided the fate of France and in the following years of conquest, Henry V signed the treaty of Troyes with the Charles VI of France (the mad king). Effectively claiming the French throne on Charles’ deathbed. History knows that this didn’t materialise as Henry V died a few months before Charles in AD 1422. Leaving England and occupied France in the hands of a 9-month-old King Henry VI, the only king to have been crowned in both countries.

King Henry V and his army really shouldn’t have won the battle that day as the odds really were against them. I like the depiction of the battle in the film as it clearly depicts how the weather and terrain dictated the outcome, although, the dauphin (Pattinson) was never present at the battle.

But what really separates this film compared to other famous adaptations of Henry V is that it doesn’t rely on Shakespeare’s play and I’m thankful for it!! They even consistently showed Henry’s famous scar on his cheek from the battle of Shrewsbury prior to the film’s time frame.
