I first came across this poem when I was a young man and learned some verses. It seemed such a charming a love poem that I couldn't see why it wasn't more popular - I'm a little wiser now.
I left out 10 verses: they make little material difference being in a similar vein.
George Meredith was a poet and novelist who has been compared with Thomas Hardy. He used to be a lot more popular.
