In this final video of the series I survey the landscape today, and admire the near completeness of the elite victory.
The challenge for contemporary Americans is to recognize that the current system is not natural, inevitable or eternal—it is the product of human decisions that can be unmade by other human decisions. The policies that created middle-class prosperity were the result of political choices, just as the policies that destroyed it were political choices—policy choices that can be reversed.
But of utmost significance is awareness. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. One must recognize the con for what it is. And that requires the kind of clear-eyed observation that sees through the mythology to the reality beneath.
