Is Midway Mall abandoned? We went to Elyria, Ohio to find out. My son and I walked the concourse, checked which shops are still hanging on, and captured the eerie-meets-active vibe you only get in a dying mall. A few stores are open, but the empty storefronts and quiet hallways tell the larger story.

During filming, mall security told us we could not record inside and wouldn’t explain why. We followed their instruction and wrapped up—private property means their rules. If you visit, be respectful of posted policies and employees.

Why this place matters: Midway Mall opened in 1966 and was once a busy regional hub. Today it’s in transition as Lorain County and developers move toward converting the site into a business/industrial park. We love documenting these places before they change so future viewers can see a slice of local history.
