Denmark has announced its biggest defense plan ever — worth $8.7 billion. This plan is about protecting the Arctic region and making sure Greenland stays safe and under Danish control.

Out of this money, $4.5 billion will be used to buy 16 new F-35 fighter jets from the United States, bringing Denmark’s total to 43 advanced jets. The other $4.2 billion will go toward new Arctic defenses — including two military units, a new Arctic Command Headquarters in Greenland’s capital (Nuuk), drones, radar systems, and two patrol ships to watch over the icy seas.

Why is this important?
