Tamil Nadu politics is once again at a boiling point as the DMK government and Governor RN Ravi come face to face. The controversy erupted on January 20 when the Governor walked out of the Tamil Nadu Assembly without delivering his customary address. Raj Bhavan cited issues over the playing of the National Anthem, alleged factual errors in the government’s report, and interruption of the Governor’s speech. Chief Minister MK Stalin called it an insult to the Assembly and a violation of Article 176 of the Constitution. With the opposition AIADMK joining the protest, the debate over constitutional propriety, federalism, and the Governor’s role has intensified across the state.
