Out of all the 1960s bands that should have become big stars and better known, Zakary Thaks is at the top of my list. Zakary Thaks was an American garage rock band from Corpus Christi, Texas which formed in the mid-1960s. The band developed out of teen surf group named The Riptides, which then morphed into a band named the Marauders, which finally became Zakary Thaks in 1966. Their first record, for the local J-Beck record label, combined an original composition, "Bad Girl", with a Kinks song, "I Need You". The song was released in mid-1966 and became a regional hit which was then picked up nationally by Mercury Records. The records success won the band a spot supporting their heroes The Yardbirds. In addition to opening for the Yardbirds, they also shared the stage with Jefferson Airplane and 13th Floor Elevators. Over the course of their career they released six 45s between 1966-1969 before splitting up in early 1970…. Zakary Thaks recorded “A Passage To India” and "It's The End" in 1966 but both songs went unreleased for decades. Last year, 2022, Mojo-Bone Rekkids released both songs on a 45 , it's the first time that the songs have appeared on a vinyl 45.
