Jasminum sambac Arabian Knight, a double flowered Arabian Jasmine changing flower colour

Описание: Jasminum sambac Arabian Knight is a double flowered variety of Arabian Jasmine, whose flowers have the peculiarity of changing colours, from white to purple when ageing, before fading. This peculiarity of changing flower colour so dramatically is extremely uncommon in jasmines, as it is the first time I notice it in my jasmine collection, however if you are aware of other jasmines showing this characteristic, please write it in the comments below as I am very curious to know. The Arabian Jasmine, Jasminum sambac, is famous for the fragrance of its flowers, and I made a video about the wild type of this species, with simple flowers, a few weeks ago (the link is    • Best scented houseplants for indoor fragra...   ), and its fragrance is amazing, citrusy and sweet at the same time, very intense. Unfortunately in my experience, "Arabian Knight" is absolutely not as fragrant as the wild type: the scent has the same citrusy and sweet notes, very pleasant, however the intensity of the scent is a lot less intense, being almost undetectable, unless I stick my nose literally next to the flower. Another feature of this variety is that its flowers are quite small, about cm 1 - 1.5 across, starting tubular but ending ball-shaped (many double-flowered varieties tend to be ball-shaped), however these flowers never open up completely while ageing (like a double or multiple flowered rose or a peony would do), but they only change colour from white to purple, turning brownish just before dropping from the plant. If you love unusual plants, definitely a jasmine changing flower colour would be a rare addition to your collection, however, if you love fragrant plants, I believe that the wild type of Jasminum sambac is a lot better scented than "Arabian Knight" (at least this is my experience considering the plant I have, which is very young; I will check again next year, when the plant is more mature, and then maybe the fragrance intensity might be stronger; however also my wild-type Jasminum sambac is a very young plant, about the same size of "Arabian Knight", and smells a lot more intensely).
It is not a very easy plant to find in the UK; I bought from an Italian nursery, specialist in Jasmines and Pelargoniums, Vivai Malvarosa ( www.malvarosa.it/en/categoria-prodotto/jasminum-en/ ) . "Arabian Knight", like all Arabian jasmine (Jasminum sambac) varieties, can grow outdoors only from USDA 9 and up, because it is frost tender, so in the UK and cold climates, can only be grown as indoor plant or as a conservatory or greenhouse plant, in a very sunny position and in moist but well drained soil, ideally acidic.
