Let's Talk About S*x Conference 2024 in Washington, D.C. Recap

Описание: SisterSong, the National Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, brought the nation’s largest Reproductive Justice conference to Washington, D.C., August 22-25, 2024.

Before the 2024 election and marking the 30th Anniversary of Reproductive Justice, this is a critical moment for our movement. What better place to have LTAS than D.C.? It is a vibrant, politically strategic city with roots in Black Culture to re-establish our unity, activism, and collective vision.

We set the culture: movement-shifting conversations on accountability, transcendence, and liberation, and vibes that carried from the workshops to the dance floor. The Friday night plenary conversation with Goody Howard, Sex With Ashley, and Whitni Miller was spicy AND educational. The night ended with a Pajama Jam party and live performance by Durand Bernarr.

In 1994, twelve Black Women gathered and through their collective wisdom and resistance, a seed was planted. A direct action on August 9, 1994 - where nearly 800 Black women signed a call out of Congress on healthcare reform birthed the term Reproductive Justice. This direct action shifted the culture and laid the foundation for a new framework that ignited a movement.

In the Spirit and legacy of freedom schools where there were no pre-qualifications & no age limits required - just a willingness to learn and be transformed…

In the tradition of Black August, where we honor our freedom fighters - past and present - and commit to studying, fasting, and training for liberation.

August 21-24, 2024, we invited movement shifters, RJ leaders, and individuals committed to the Reproductive Justice movement to experience our RJ University, where we are building a movement rooted in the commitment of achieving sexual and Reproductive Justice by any means necessary.

SisterSong's mission is to center the needs, experiences, and leadership of communities and individuals historically pushed to the margins. Our in-person convening will prioritize the attendance of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+, gender non-conforming, those living with disabilities, and youth leaders.
