What started as an "Elon Musk bet" has turned into one of the most reliable assets in the National Electricity Market, saving consumers over $150 million and proving that big batteries are faster and more precise than traditional gas peakers.

When it first launched in 2017, it made global headlines for its 100MW/129MWh capacity, built in under 100 days (lucky, or it would have been free).

Key to its success is Tesla Autobidder, a real-time AI trading platform. Autobidder acts like an "Autopilot" for the energy market. It uses machine learning to forecast electricity prices, load, and generation, making split-second decisions to buy low and sell high. It constantly out-trades other energy generation, stabilising the grid and saving South Australian consumers millions.

But it didn't stop there. In 2020, Neoen and Tesla completed a massive 50% expansion, bringing it to its current 150MW/194MWh. That extra capacity isn't just about more power; it introduced "Virtual Machine Mode," allowing the battery to provide essential inertia support that was once only possible with fossil fuel generators.
